Age and driver's license requirements for car rentals are enforced to verify driving experience and insurance coverage. At İzmir My Rent A Car, the primary driver requirements are checked during both the reservation and vehicle handover stages.
Minimum Age Limit
For standard vehicle groups, the driver must be at least 23 years old. Additional assessments may be conducted depending on the vehicle class and rental terms. Making a reservation in the name of a person who does not meet the age requirement does not imply that another person may drive the vehicle.
Driver's License Must Be at Least Three Years Old
A fundamental requirement is that the driver must have held a valid driver's license for at least three years. The issue date on the license is verified at the time of vehicle handover. The vehicle cannot be released if the document is expired, illegible, or invalid.
What Documents Are Required at Handover?
Turkish citizens must present a valid driver's license, an identity document, and a credit card in their own name. Foreign guests are required to provide a driver's license, a passport, and a credit card. If entry into Turkey was made without a passport, an "Entry into the Country Document" may also be required.
The Same Checks Apply to Additional Drivers
Every person who will drive the vehicle must be listed in the contract as an additional driver. Additional drivers must also meet the necessary age, license, and documentation requirements. If the vehicle is driven by someone not named in the contract, any damages incurred may be excluded from insurance and collision coverage.
Provide Information Before Booking
If you have any concerns regarding driver age, license issue date, or documentation, please consult our team before submitting a reservation request. This ensures that upon arrival at the pickup location, you can be directed to the appropriate vehicle category without encountering unexpected eligibility issues.
A Photograph of the Document Alone Is Not Sufficient
Original documents or valid versions compliant with regulations must be presented at the time of handover. A photo of the driver's license on a phone, an expired document, or a credit card belonging to another person does not meet standard handover requirements. Therefore, it is important to enter the correct age and license issue date on the reservation form.
If the vehicle is to be shared among family or friends, it is not enough for only the primary driver to meet the requirements; everyone who will take the wheel must be declared in advance. For long-distance trips, adding a second driver to the contract facilitates travel with adequate rest and helps ensure coverage conditions remain valid.
